Chapter One

The Road Back Basics

“When I first read your website, I thought no way.  This is too simple.  Barley? Give me a break.  I figured I really didn’t have anything to lose, I felt like crap warmed over anyway.  Two weeks later and I mean two weeks later, I am a new man!  The fog has cleared, the depression is gone, and my wife has a husband again.  Barley, who would have thought?  Needless to say, I was not surprised when the Omega 3 and Body Calm did exactly what you said they would.  Thank you from the bottom of my big Texas heart.”

T.D.

Austin, TX.

This is just one of the numerous testimonials that I receive daily from people around the world, telling me how The Road Back Program has helped them regain their foothold in life. As this man said, he thought the program was too simple.  In addition, usually when something is simple, there is a tendency to disbelieve the fact that there could be results. Nevertheless, The Road Back Program IS simple, but it is also highly effective if followed as written, while using the correct supplements, and completing all the steps.

The Road Back Program is a very specific, heavily researched, and a proven program.  As I noted earlier in the book, I formulated this program to help people get off all kinds of drugs, while reducing, to almost zero, the crippling, side effects often associated with coming off the drugs.

Even as I write, there are new formulations of psychiatric medications that roll out of the labs and into distribution daily. But what I have found over the years, is that no matter what the formulation, The Road Back Program is still effective, as long as the person using this program does not fit into the four points of the person I am unable to assist, as noted later in this chapter, and as long as the program is actually followed to completion.

If you are reading the book you most likely understand, firsthand, the side effects of the psychiatric medications you have been taking. As of today, tens of thousands of people, the world over, have used The Road Back Program to free themselves from the bonds of psychiatric medications.

What Side Effects Are You Suffering From?

Due to the various and differing circumstances of the many people who are reading this book, I have outlined several scenarios of where you might be at this point, and how The Road Back Program will apply to you. Finding out where you are and what your particular circumstances are, will be the most benefit to you at this point, and will give you the starting point for your progress on The Road Back Program.

Scenario One:

You are not on any psychiatric medications, and never have been, but are thinking about taking these medications.

To take or not take a psychiatric medication may be the million dollar question of our century. Debate and statistics fill the news nearly every day about the effectiveness or potential harm created by psychiatric drugs.  The confusions tend to mount further when new and conflicting clinical trials are published that counter the “new” evidence published last week.

This book is not about to enter the fray of psychiatric drug debate. The intent of this book is to offer hope and solutions for those wanting to safely taper off psychiatric medication and to offer a few solutions for those that are seeking an alternative of psychiatric medication.

If you are looking for a solution before you begin taking a psychiatric drug, this book offers a nutritional solution that may be the answer. Maybe the word “May,” in the last sentence ought to be capitalized, italicized, underlined, put in bold type and more.

Nutrition is not the answer for all of the ills that might beset mankind. A drug is not the answer for all ills that might beset mankind.

If, the symptoms you are experiencing are caused by or perpetuated by your body being deficient in a specific or broad range of vitamins, amino acids, fatty acids, enzymes, protein, etc, using this part of the program will probably be the answer for you.

Scenario Two:

You are on one or more psychiatric medications, and want to withdraw from these drugs.

You are the prime candidate for The Road Back Program.  You may be experiencing side effects from your medications, or not.  You may have tried to taper before, or not.  You may have been on your medications for just a few days or many years.

You will find tremendous benefit and success with The Road Back Program.

Scenario Three:

If you have already started to taper off and are suffering:

Quote: Dr. Donald E. McAlpine, Psychiatry and Psychology, Mayo Clinic: "It's important to taper off slowly, extending the taper over several weeks under your physician's direction. When you stop too quickly, you may experience so-called discontinuation symptoms, which can masquerade as relapse."

The Road Back Program has been designed to help you get back on track and succeed with the tapering process. This can take just a little more time initially, but there IS a way back!

Scenario Four:

If you have already tapered off your medications and are still suffering or went off medication “cold turkey”:

Due to the nature and composition of psychiatric medications, and their effects on the body, you can still suffer from withdrawal side effects long after you are completely off the medications. The term for this would be “protracted” or continuing withdrawal side effects. This is probably the most difficult situation to deal with, but The Road Back Program can still be effective and successful in eliminating these side effects from your life.

Quitting your medication “cold turkey” or tapering off too quickly are very close in nature and many of the same side effects will occur, and often, to the same magnitude. This is usually the longest road back, but can be accomplished. Many people start to feel better one week into the program, and reach a major positive change by the fourteenth day of the program.

Scenario Five:

You have all four of the points listed below:

In the past, The Road Back could not help a person who fit the following four points. We now have a program for you as well.

These four points are:

1.      You are sensitive to all supplements and most foods.

2.      You came off your medications and suffered extreme withdrawal symptoms.

3.      You are still experiencing “protracted” withdrawals, even though you are off your medications.

4.      You have been off your medications for at least six months.

All you need to do is follow the pre-taper program for the medication that applies in your case.

Once you have reached a point of no side effects remaining, continue with the nutritional supplements 45 additional days.

I urge you to not give up hope. There is an answer for you that will get you fully recovered from the medication.
